Horses In Action Sunday 30th September 2018 at 9am – 3pm

The Strathalbyn Agricultural Society has the pleasure of showcasing our equestrian horses-in-action competition on Sunday 30th September 2018 at the Strathalbyn Polo&Rec Grounds, Callington Road, and we have local farming grains, produce, livestock and indoor exhibitions on the main Show Day, Public Holiday Monday 1st October 2018, Coronation Road, Strathalbyn.

Show Day Admit Prices at gates  –  Adults: $10;  Pensioners/Children: $5; Kids Under 5: Free;  and  Family Tickets (2 adults & 3 children): $30
Early ticket sales  –  Adults $8 ;  Pensioners/Children $4;  Kids U5 are Free;  and there is no pre purchase for family tickets.

The Show is located in the heart of the township and both visitors and locals enjoy a family day of browsing the exhibitions, displays, huge livestock (dairy cows, beef cattle, alpacas, sheep and goats), exciting new kids games, carnival amusement rides and walking around the grounds showing the children some fun and games.  Plus our new exciting works of art – “Junk To Art” competition display, thanks to the Alexandrina Council for their sponsorship.

Huge Carnival Amusements thrilling rides like the Wipeout Ride, Jurassic Adventure Inflatable, 9 Hole Mini Golf, new ride the Wacky Shack Funhouse, Shark Mouth and the Tea Cups Merry-Go-Round for the little ones.

The Strath Trail Bag is a must to walk around and through the 20 stops on the trail collecting many items of interest and games for the kids enjoyment.  We involve many local community groups, especially young people, in celebrating the culture of this regional area and engaging in the annual celebration that is a ‘show’.

The SA Country Shows State Rural Ambassador and the Young Rural Ambassadors attend the show to talk with other young people about the Next Generation Group who assist at all local country shows.

The Strath Show focuses mainly on livestock competitions, primary production, agriculture and associated businesses. Alongside the traders displaying their large farm and agricultural machinery, vehicles, new cars, jewellery and products, we also have many interesting entertainment events during the day, with live music and singing by the EFS School Choir.

We are assisted by volunteers from other Southern Country Show Societies to help organise and run the sponsored Ubute Marquee Children’s Games on the oval during the day.   We have sack races, wheelbarrow races, egg and spoon races, spit the dummy or apple competition and the 3 legged races, all enjoyed by children of all ages.

Attractions – Wilburs Wildlife animals, The Funny Farmers, Whip Cracking display, Circus Sessions for the kids, Eastern Fleurieu School Choir and Band performing the National Anthen at the official opening. 
Live Music with Dean Bird in the food court and the Buddies Four band.

In the large historic Show Hall, (over 100 years old), the Section Convener’s display and showcase all the indoor exhibitions including, art, craft, woodwork, lego, needlework, crochet, knitting, dressmaking, cut flowers, plants in pots, floral art, cookery, home preserves, cakes, biscuits, cake decorating, photography, fruits and vegetables, grains and a honey competition.
